Deirdre Brennan
Deirdre studied Fine Art in Letterkenny Institute of Technology where she received a diploma followed by a degree in printmaking in the National College of Art & Design in Dublin. She worked as a community artist with minority groups and conducted art workshops in the Orchard Gallery in Derry. She is a practising artist and exhibits regularly and conducts painting workshops in the locality.
In 1995, Deirdre, along with other artists gave environmental sculpture workshops which took place during the annual Earagail Arts Festival in 1995 to give an opportunity for young people to take part in creating large-scale pieces of temporary sculpture from natural materials.
Since 2004, the project (now given the name ‘Cosan Glas’) has taken place on the shores of Magheraroarty, a sand dune peninsula situated between Errigal mountain and Tory Island near the towns of Falcarragh and Gortahork. It has become the Grand Finale event of the Earagail Arts Festival and attracts audiences of 2,000 and more.
