Save Our Scenery May gig a huge success!
« return to newsThe inaugural Save Our Scenery gig at Tábhairne Leo kicked off with a bang on Monday 3 May 2010. Tickets sold out within days of going on sale, unfortunately leaving many disappointed people.
The fund raising event to raise awareness & support for Donegal ATP was hosted and opened by MOYA BRENNAN and her band, in the very place she started her career as a young girl. Followed by MUNDY who clearly enjoyed bantering with the audience whilst performing hits such as Galway Girl, Mexico and July. Nth Carolina’s SARAH SISKIND, who is also a well known singer/songwriter in Nashville, then took to the stage for her 30 min set. Oscar winning GLEN HANSARD then got up with his well travelled guitar, stood amongst the audience for his first song before taking to the stage, including High Hopes.
Committee members from Donegal Alternatives To Pylons and Coiste Timpeallachta Ghaoth Dobhair took the opportunity to thank the musicians for donating their time and talent and to remind everyone the reason we were there, to prevent the erection of pylons across the beautiful and rustic countryside, destroying the irreplaceable scenery. MUNDY summed it up when he said “I’d hate to see Donegal wearing braces”
PAUL BRADY was eager to join the party and get on stage. He didn’t disappoint, launching into it with his usual energy and enthusiasm with songs such as Nobody Knows and The World Is What You Make It . The night was capped off by all the artists joining Paul on stage, together with Donegal Person of the Year Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh for a roof raising rendition of The Homes of Donegal.
The audience had witnessed something truly special, with each artist giving a taste of their genius in an atmosphere of intimacy that can only be produced at smaller venues. There was a feeling of disappointment when each left the stage countered by a sense of excitement and expectation at whom was to follow.
The first of the SOS gigs completed, a success for the Artists, the Donegal ATP and those lucky enough to snap up the limited tickets. There is already a buzz about Gweedore and Donegal as to when & who will be appearing on the next billing.
